Information for Referrers

Referring to Barwon Endocrinology

  • Referrals may be made out to Barwon Endocrinology or to individual practitioners (please note waiting times may vary).

  • Please provide enough information to allow us to triage the referral in a timely manner.

  • If recent results do not accompany the referral, we may ask your patients to have a pathology test done before coming to see us.

  • Referrals can be made by fax (03) 5271 8835 or by Referralnet

Information you can rely on

Our policy is to provide you with accurate and reliable information about your patient's consultations with us within a 3 business day turnaround. We will send information by fax.
If for some reason, you have not received the information you need, please contact reception.

Do we offer Bulk Billing?

As a policy we don't advertise Bulk Billing consultations. But we do recognise that there
isn't a public endocrinology service in the Geelong region (outside of the Diabetes Referral Centre) and that we have an obligation to make endocrinology care affordable to those who are vulnerable. Please let us know if you feel any of your clients are unable to pay and we can discuss alternative billing options with them prior to the appointment.

Direct Private Admissions

In some cases where hospitilisation is required in a clinically stable patient, we can directly admit to the private hospitals. Please call us on our direct access phone (0498 ENDO 00 or 0498 363 600) to discuss individual cases where this may be possible. We offer a 24 hour oncall service for inpatient referrals from specialists at the Epworth and St John of God.

Allied Health Services

Please note that any referrals to the High Risk Foot Service need to be made to Dr Roberts who oversees each consultation. These appointments are bulk billed and do not interfere with standing Team Care Arrangements already in place. We have a nurse practitioner diabetes educator who can take referrals directly (outside of team care arrangements). Patients with private health cover will be able to claim in part for fees raised from consultations. Inpatient reviews by diabetes educators or podiatry will not attract a separate fee as Allied Health are credentialled for the Epworth Geelong Hospital.
